The Reality of Despair
It’s not hard to see the sorrowful state of our world—disease, death, conflict, hatred, injustice, and a widespread lack of hope. Life often doesn’t go the way we wish it would.
But why is there so much despair in the world?
The Cause of Despair
Things break when they’re not used according to their original design. The purpose of life is to have a living relationship with God, our Creator.
That relationship was broken by sin. Sin is anything that goes against God’s law—anything that deviates from His original design.
1 John 3:4b – “...sin is lawlessness.”
Our world is broken because of sin. We’ve strayed from God’s original plan for our lives. The Bible tells us that we are all sinners.
Romans 3:23 – “...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
The Consequence of Our Condition
Sin doesn’t just cause despair—it brings serious consequences. There is a penalty for sin, and that penalty is death.
Romans 6:23a – “...the wages of sin is death...”
Ephesians 2:1 – “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins.”
Death means separation. Our sins have separated us from God and brought His righteous judgment. Because of this spiritual death, our final destination is eternal separation from God in hell—this is the second death.
Revelation 21:8 – “But the cowardly, unbelieving, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Is Hope Even Possible?
Thankfully, this isn’t the end of the story. God has given us a chance to rediscover hope! But this hope isn’t found within ourselves.
Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Hope is possible because Jesus took our place. He bore the penalty we deserved.
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
True Hope in the Life of Jesus
Jesus died to give us life! Our only hope is in accepting the free gift He offers—His life.
Romans 6:23b – “...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This hope that can erase all despair is found in Jesus alone. There is no other way.
Acts 4:12 – “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
Are You Ready for True Hope?
Jesus is ready to give you the hope of true life! All you need to do is believe and accept Jesus as your one and only Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:13 – “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
If you want to learn more, or if you’ve decided to give your life to Jesus, we’d love to hear from you.
