Confession of faith

Statement of Faith

The Outaouais Bible Baptist Church exists to encourage and enable people to develop authentic and meaningful relationships with God and with one another; to help them grow in these relationships so they may be equipped for effective ministry within the Church and a life mission in the world—to magnify our great God.

This is a brief summary of our doctrinal beliefs. A more detailed Statement of Faith is available upon request.

The Bible

We believe that the Holy Scriptures—both Old and New Testaments, the sixty-six books—are inspired by God; verbally and fully inspired, without error, and the sole infallible rule of faith and Christian life. See 2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:19–21; 1 Peter 1:23–25.

God

We believe in one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in nature and attributes. See John 14:16–17; 15:26; 1:1; 10:30; Philippians 2:5–11; 1 John 5:7–8, 20.

Jesus Christ

We believe in the incarnation, the virgin birth, and the absolute deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. His death on the cross was substitutionary—He took our place and became the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His mediating ministry at the right hand of the Father, and His power to save eternally. See John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 20:27; 1 John 5:20; 2:2; Hebrews 7:25.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that God the Holy Spirit calls, regenerates, seals, and indwells the believer. We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at the moment of salvation, and we reject Charismatic doctrines concerning the Holy Spirit. See John 16:8; 3:3, 5–7; 7:39; Ephesians 4:30; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20; 12:13.

Creation

We believe in the biblical account of creation, that it was a direct act of God. We reject all theories of evolution. See Genesis 1:1; John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:16.

Humanity

We believe that man was created in the image of God, tempted by Satan, and fell due to disobedience. Therefore, all humans are born in sin. We affirm total depravity and the condemnation of man to hell. Salvation requires new birth, repentance toward God, and true faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. See Genesis 1:27; 3:1; Romans 5:12; 3:10–12, 23; John 3:18, 36; 7:13; 1 John 5:11–12, 20; Ephesians 2:8–9; 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9; Acts 17:30.

Things to Come

We believe in the imminent return of Christ, preceding the Great Tribulation and the Millennium. At death, the saved go directly to heaven, while the unsaved go to hell awaiting bodily resurrection. The saved will enjoy eternal glory in God’s presence; the unsaved will face conscious, eternal torment in the lake of fire. See 1 Peter 4:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–17; Revelation 20:4, 6, 11–15; 2 Corinthians 5:2, 8; 15:23; Luke 16:19–31.

The Church and Its Mission

We believe that a biblical local church is an independent, autonomous body composed of baptized believers adhering to sound doctrine. Its mission is to reach the lost and make disciples. We believe God entrusts parents within the church with the education and well-being of their children. See 1 Corinthians 6:1–2; Philippians 4:15; Acts 2:41–47; Matthew 28:19–20; Ephesians 6:4; Galatians 4:2; Deuteronomy 6:7; Proverbs 19:27.

Separation

We believe in biblical separation in three areas:

  1. Ecclesiastical Separation: The local church must separate from affiliations with ecumenism, liberalism, neo-orthodoxy, neo-evangelicalism, and the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement. See 2 Corinthians 6:14–18; Romans 16:17; 1 Corinthians 5:11; 2 Thessalonians 3:6.

  2. Personal Separation: Believers must avoid worldly practices that dishonor the Savior. See 2 Timothy 2:19; Galatians 5:19–25; 1 Corinthians 6:9–12; 2 Corinthians 5:15.

  3. Church-State Separation: The church must remain distinct from civil government. See Matthew 22:21; 1 Corinthians 6:1–4; Ephesians 1:22; 5:23.
